Profile visibility settings

Visibility settings are where privacy principle meets product detail, and the granularity matters more than it looks. An all-or-nothing toggle forces attendees into a bad choice: fully exposed or invisible to the matchmaking that might justify their trip. Field-level control changes the calculus — someone can show name, company, and interests (enough for good matching) while keeping their email and phone number private until they choose to share, which is how most business attendees actually want to operate. For organizers, the design goal is keeping people discoverable: every profile that goes fully hidden is a hole in the attendee directory and one fewer counterpart for everyone else, so the settings should make partial visibility the easy, obvious middle path. There are segments needing special handling — journalists, government attendees, staff of companies in sensitive negotiations — and a "hide me from specific companies" or full-stealth option quietly retains registrants who'd otherwise not attend. The common mistake is never communicating the settings' existence, so privacy-conscious attendees assume the worst and disengage while everyone else runs on defaults they never saw. A single line in the onboarding flow fixes most of that. One honest nuance: whatever attendees set, test what exhibitors actually see through lead retrieval and directory exports — visibility settings that the app respects but the export ignores are a breach waiting to be noticed.
